Chevy Silverado Won't Start After Wrong Key Put In Ignition

2003 Chevy Truck Silverado 6 cylinder Vortec. Question =
Someone went to move my Silverado truck but put the wrong key in and now truck will not turnover. The key will not turn. The steering wheel is unlocked, what do i need to do to get the key to turn???? Thanks.

Answer:
If the wrong key was put in the ignition, and now the correct key wont turn the ignition, then it sounds as if the wrong key has damaged the ignition lock cylinder tumblers. You could try to spay WD-40 in the cylinder, work it in and out with the correct key to try to free it up. Also light taping on the cylinder with a small hammer. If this does not fix the problem, the ignition key cylinder will have to be replaced. Not that difficult of a job. Removed the lower column trim panel and then find the cylinder release tab, press it in with the key in it and the cylinder will just slide out. Afterward a theft relearn will need to be perfomed.

Question:
My 2003 Chevrolet K2500 HD Truck has a problem with starting. After sitting for a few minutes or more it cranks for about 5 to 10 seconds before starting. If I shut it off and immediately restart it, it fires up no problem. It also fires right up if I turn the key a few times before cranking.

Answer:
The hissing you hear is the fuel pump. Which brings me to what i was going to suggest. When turning the key on, and not even cranking, the fuel pump primes the system for 2-3 seconds. It also keeps a prime when you turn the truck off.

Since cycling the key a few times seems to help it start, i have to say that the fuel pressure is low. Cycling the key builds the pressure up a little more to get it to start. These engines MUST have at LEAST 55 PSI fuel pressure to start. If even a few pounds less, they wont. Cycling the key adds a little more each time.

I would suggest having the fuel filter replaced, that may help. More often it is the fuel pump beginning to fail.

Problem with my 1999 GMC Sierra 2500. 6.0L V8 Vortec Repair work done prior = new fuel pump and new spark plugs. Checked fuel pressure at 50psi checked all cylinder compression within specs. Checked spark on all coils.

Question =
My truck is hard to start mainly in the cold i live in Alaska where is gets really damn cold but my trucks always plugged in. It used to start as soon as you touched the key now before firing it will sputter and then start, the truck sputters when you take off from a dead stop also and will at a certain rpm driving down the road i am a advanced mechanic but this things got me chasing my tail there's no engine light or history codes.

Answer:
First of all, re-check the fuel pressure. It is a little low. It needs to be 55-60 PSI. These things don't run to good with low fuel pressure. Also take a fuel sample to see if any contamination, or separating after the gas sits a little while.

Check the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose after it has been running a while- then has been off for 1/2 hour. See if you smell fuel in the vacuum line. If so, replace regulator. May have a plug wire breaking down. Spray with a water bottle when running, then brake torque it to see if you can get one to break down.
