2006 Pontiac G6 Locks And Light Problems

When I shift out of park the door lock and unlock goes crazy back a fourth. My mph on the cluster jumps up and down when the car isn’t moving. My abs traction control and break lights randomly turn off and on. When driving the car won’t leave 3rd gear. When I put it in snap shift it still won’t shift.

Answer: Sounds like your Pontiac G6 is experiencing multiple electrical problems that may be related to each other and have one central issue causing them.

Door Locks: The erratic behavior of the door locks when shifting out of park could be caused by a faulty door lock switch or a wiring issue in the door lock circuit. Water in a door lock switch from the window being open during rain can cause it to fail. But this would usually cause the locks to act strange all the time, not just when shifting gears.

Speedometer Fluctuation: The fluctuation of the MPH on the cluster when the car isn't moving may indicate a problem with the vehicle speed sensor or a faulty instrument cluster. This sensor provides input to the vehicle's computer system, and if it malfunctions, it can cause inaccurate speed readings. We have seen many times a fault inside the instrument cluster causing this. There are a few companies out there that will repair it by replacing the little motor that controls the gauge. You would need to remove it and send it in to them.

ABS, Traction Control, and Brake Lights: The intermittent illumination of the ABS, traction control, and brake lights could be due to issues with the ABS system, wheel speed sensors, or a malfunctioning brake control module. Faulty wiring or connectors in the system could also contribute to this problem.

Transmission Issues: The transmission not shifting out of 3rd gear and not responding to snap shift could be indicative of a transmission control module (TCM) malfunction, transmission solenoid failure, or internal transmission problems. Low transmission fluid levels or a clogged transmission filter could also cause similar symptoms.

All that being said, the most common faulure in the Pontiac G6 is a malfunctioning body control module (BCM). From the passenger side of the car there is a plastic panel on the right side of the center consule. Remove it and the BCM and all the fuses and relays are there. You can remove the door lock relay to see if that problem goes away. This would indicate a body control module problem.
