Pontiac Trans Am SES Problems
2002 Pontiac Trans am V8 5.7L.
Service Engine Light Transmission was flushed Standard. Fuel injectors cleaned a/c compressor
replaced.
Question:
I just started the Car and started to drive when the service engine light came on and
started flashing. The car starts to shake in first gear and 6th gear really bad. Any ideas. Thank
You so much.
Answer:
A check engine light that is flashing is an indication of a dead misfire. Te SES flashes
because the misfire is bad enough to cause possible catalytic converter damage. This is the only
reason for the light to flash. Common cause for a misfire on this engine is a bad plug wire, spark
plug, ignition coil, or injector.
With it missing badly in the higher gear, is would suspect one of the ignition components listed above instead of a injector. In a high gear and giving a little gas to say- pass, this puts a heavy load on the ignition system, and would cause a misfire. Spraying water on the coils and wires may cause the spark to jump. You would be able to see and hear it. This is a way to determine which cylinder is misfiring, if you dont have a scanner to read data.
1995 pontiac Firebird formula 5.7L V8.
Check gauges light comes on.
Repair work done prior = multi spark replaced
Question:
My check gauges light goes on ONLY in drive when I'm stoped. I notice the oil
pressure goes below the red but the car is still doing just fine. Also i notice the temp goes up to
@ the same time when I'm stopped & the check gauge light goes on. When I'm driving or put it in
park everything goes back to normal & the light goes out. Any advice would be great! Thank you.
Answer:
OK, so 2 problems.
Either of which will turn on the check gauges light.
The engine has oil pressure. That why the gauge goes down, and turns on the gauge warning.
The engine is also overheating if the gauge goes up too high. This will also turn on that warning.
Need to find why low oil pressure, and check coolant level. May need a thermostat for the
temperature problem.
Question:
the other night the car stopped running all of the sudden. i went to put the car in
park and turn the key to restart... Nothing happened. Fuel pump didn't make any noises. Dash
still read that i was going 50 mph. Starter solenoid didn't click or anything. Just replaced battery.
A month ago due to a dead cell. i checked all the fuses and none were blown... What do you
think could be going on? Any help would be great. 1994 Pontiac Firebird.
Answer:
If you dont have enough electrical in the car to crank it, then the alternator may have failed.
Check to make sure the battery cables are clean and tight. Pull on the ground cable and follow it down to the engine to make sure it is tight.
Possible blown fusible link. There are several at the starter, and i believe on a junction block on
one of the fenders. The same block / stud used for jump starting. Should be a red cap over it.
Question:
1987 Pontiac Firebird.
Virtually all computer related sensors have been changed.
Shortly after warm up the idle increases to around 1100 rpm in neutral. Should be 600 to 70o
rpm in drive. Idle is too high.
Answer:
Check for a vacuum leak. Maybe intake gaskets start leaking after they get heated up. Check
the intake manifold gaskets especially as well as the carburetor / throttle body gasket. The
throttle gaskets are good for leaking vacuum.
