Chevy Silverado Heated Seats Go On and Off

2005 Chevrolet Silverado.
Replaced actual heated seat switch.
Question:
my truck came with heated seats and the driver seat turns on by itself u turn it off and then it comes right back on and it will turn itself off as well it just keeps cycling on and off but the back portion only.

Answer:
This could any number of things. A bad heated seat switch, faulty, drivers seat module, a shorted wire under the seat, etc. You would need to use a scanner to view input data from the seat switch to the module, and schematic to trace down the cause.

Question:
Hi, I have an 03 GMC Sierra with the 5.3. The driver side heated seat goes on by itself and cycles through the settings. This does not happen all the time. Sometimes it is fine for a week. I have disconnected the battery for a long time hoping to reset the problem but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer:
There is a unit located underneath the driver's seat which is called the Memory Seat Module. It controls the heated seat function, along with memory positions, etc. You could have a problem with that module, such as an internal short or failure. You may also want to check the wiring under the seat for any pinched or cut wires.

This sometimes happens with the back and forth motion of the seat changing positions. Usually if the memory seat module is failing, it would set a trouble code, which can be checked with an appropriate scanner. If it needs to be replaced, there is a recalibration procedure that would need to be done.

Question:
The driver side heated seat is not working, everything els is working fine and the passenger seat is working fine. If it is a fuse, I cant see of any in the owners manual. Can you help me figure out how to fix th is heated seat. 2004 GMC Sierra Denali Truck.

Answer:
There is no fuse for just the heated seat. The heated seat is controlled by the memory seat module on this truck, and the drivers door module.

The most common failure is either the seat cushion heater element or seat back heating element has an open circuit. Basically a spot on the element burns open. If either one has done that, neither on that seat will function. An OHM meter and some testing would need to be done to figure that out.

There is another possibility that is not very common. It is a service bulletin for a problem in the 5 volt reference circuit for the adjustable pedal position sensor, seat recline position sensor, and both driver and passenger heater thermistors.

Question:
My ac / heater fan will only work on the highest setting I guess its the resistor. How do I fix it? Thanks. 2004 GMC Canyon.

Answer:
The blower resistor is what controls the fan speed, and if you have only one speed available, the resistor is most likely burnt up or shorted out. The blower resistor is located under the dash on the passenger side of the vehicle. You will have to remove the lower trim on the dash and any insulating pieces as well. You will see the blower motor with a two wire connector, and the resister is right next to or behind the blower with a larger connector with usually 5 wires.

Disconnect the resistor and unbolt it from the heater case. Be sure and check the connector for any burned terminals or wiring that would be a result of the resistor overheating, and repair as necessary. After replacement, you should have all speeds operational again.

GM does now sell a kit that comes with a new blower resistor and the connector with wires in it. If you get that kit, just cuts the old electrical connector off and splice in the new connector making sure to match the wires up properly.

Question:
Chevy Silverado 2500hd 2007. When you hit the heated seat button the lights come on like they should then they shut off just a few seconds later. Driver and passenger side. And the driver side only power seat quit working at the same time. You can hit any function and it starts to move then it will quit.

Answer:
Read information above. Most likely one or more of the heater seat elements under the cover of each seat is open or shorted or possibly the drivers seat control module has failed for the drivers side seat. A voltmeter and ohms testing is required to diagnose which ones. For the power seat controls, that could be the drivers seat control module also under the seat or a wiring problem.

Question:
2005 Chevy Avalanche. My seat heater on drivers side turns on and off by itself. I replaced the seat heaters and the door module, and the problem continues. I thought i had it fixed, as when i leave the door open and test it seems to work. Then i close the door and the problem has returned. I found that with door open, i engage the bolt lock on the door, and the lights in the truck dim. The truck thinks the door is closed but it is actually open. And the seat heater on the drivers side starts to methodically turn on to full power and work its way slowly down to off, then starts the process again. The closing of this door lock causes the problem. Is it a short? Where can i look to correct this? Thanks, Jim

Answer:
Manually closing the door latch causes the truck to think the door is closed- this is normal. Thats what the latch does. It does sound like you may have a wiring problem though in the rubber boot passthrough between the door and the body of the truck. The rubber boot is visible in the door jam when open. Years of opening and closing can cause wires to break and or short together. Grab a hold of the boot and move it around with the heater activated to see if things start to act up. If so, either try to disconnect the boot from either the door or the body and inspect the wires. Sometimes this is very difficult, so it is also ok to cut the bottom of the boot with a razor from end to end to access the wiring. Cutting on the bottom prevents any water or dirt from getting into it.
