Chevy Trailblazer Starts And Dies - Code P0135

Question:
engine starts then stops after 2 seconds; turned off, try again and same result - many times, waited one day and same thing security system works. I don't have Passkey feature. 2006 Trailblazer 6 cyl. Codes = P0135 also check fuel pressure - OK.

Answer:
Thank you for your tip/donation. The code you have for your Trailblazer is the for the Heated oxygen sensor #1, and heater performance. That really shouldn't directly cause the engine to die out, so you may have two different problems. You mention that your vehicle does not have the Passkey feature, but it does have a factory theft deterrent system.

It does not utilize a chip key, but rather a Passlock sensor as part of the ignition cylinder housing. You could possibly have a problem with that. Can you keep the vehicle running if you put your foot on the gas, or will it die out no matter what? Are there any other lights showing on the dash, like a security light, theft light, or picture of a little lock symbol? Turn the key on and shut the door and any security light should go out if there not a problem with the system. If it stays on with all doors closed and the key in the on position, you definitely have a security problem. You can reply back with more information and I'll continue to help you out the best I can.

THE PROBLEM I AM ASKING ABOUT IS IT STARTS, THEN STOPS AFTER 2 seconds ; ACTS LIKE IT’S OUT OF FUEL (BUT IT IS NOT); I HAVE PUMPED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL; THIS INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED ONLY BECAUSE THE FORM REQUESTED A LIST OF “CODES”. DIES NO MATTER WHAT I DO. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH, WITH OR WITHOUT THE DOOR OPEN AND WITH AND WITHOUT THE KEY ON. WHEN THE ENGINE STOPS, MANY LIGHTS FLASH ON THE INST PANEL BUT IMMEDIATELY GO OUT.

Answer:
Ok then, we're going to have to start with the basics. You say that you have fuel, but did you actually check the fuel pressure? If it is low, or restricted it can cause the vehicle to stall. With a fuel pressure gauge, and the key on, you should have at least 50-57psi. It will drop a bit when the engine is running, but you want to have at least 50psi with just the key on, and that reading should not fall off much after sitting.

Also, check basic things like the air filter and intake tubing to make sure there is no restriction. If you can remove the plastic ducting and airbox on top of the valve cover, check to make sure you can move the throttle blade by hand. In some instances, the throttle bodies on Trailblazers become so carboned up that they stick closed and that wouldn't allow your vehicle to start. Give those things a check and get back to me.

Thanks!
I checked the throttle body and found a little gumminess; but, the vane moved freely with finger pressure; it appears that there is a servo of some sort, so that adds a little drag; when I tried to start the car with the vane visible, it did not move very much if at all (had an observer); tried to start while holding the vane open but it would not start; I will try that again tomorrow morning.

I borrowed the fuel pressure gage; I’ll borrow it again and get an exact reading, but, for what it is worth, I remember the needle was at the 1 o’clock position. I borrowed the OBD II scanner from O’Reilly auto parts; can’t say whether it is comprehensive. I’ ll check the fuses in the morning. Thanks for your promptness.

Answer:
Thank you for getting back, and like I mentioned earlier I assume you most likely have ok fuel pressure and am leaning toward a theft issue, or some other electrical issue. I researched the scanner you used and it does NOT support anything other than engine and ABS codes. You won't be able to see any other systems with that scanner.

If you can find one that does body control, you can watch the live data stream to see if your getting ignition and theft signals, or if there are any trouble codes for those systems. It sounds like your throttle body is probably ok, but could use a cleaning to get rid of the greasy carbon build up. I'll be able to reply more tomorrow after you get any further information.

Question:
I have a 2005 GMC envoy that is starting running for 2 seconds that it turns off. I checked spark plugs and coils, Fuel pump. Any advice?

Answer:
If you have not done so already, confirm that fuel pressure stays steady while cranking and while running and when it dies out. You could have a weak fuel pump. But shutting off after 2 seconds is usually the sign of a theft security system problem.
