Chevy Cavalier ABS And Rear Brakes

ABS Problem with my 2000 Cavalier.
Work done to repair this problem = replaced, brake lines, pads rotors and shoes Question = getting a clicking noise when you are stopping, sounds like abs motor. Pedal is ok (hard) no air in lines.

Answer:
Is this noise related to vehicle speed or is it a steady noise. Does it sound like it is from the front brakes, rear brakes, or under the dash?

Visitor Reply:
the noise is only there when your foot is on the pedal slowing down,,just before the car comes to a full stop. You hear a clicking sound,in the front of the dash ,and feel a pulsing on the brake pedal. It happens going forward and reverse. Only get it like I said just before the car comes to a stop.

Answer:
This sounds like a possible "low speed ABS activation"This usually is caused by a faulty front ABS wheel speed sensor, or the wiring to one of those sensors. This is really hard to catch which side has the problem, even with a scanner.I would suggest unplugging the left and right harness and look for water in the connectors, or green corrosion. Also pull on each of the 2 wires in each sides harness to check for a broken wire. If OK, then I would suspect a speed sensor.

2000 Chevy Cavalier Engine size = Small 4 Cylinder. Question:
This may be a stupid question but I'm stuck. The rear drum brakes in my wifes 2000 Chevy Cavalier are worn out and have locked. It sits in a parking lot about a mile from home. How can I unlock the rear wheels just long enough to drive it home?

Answer:
The rear drums should not be locked up unless the rear brakes have been grinding badly for quite some time. Aside from removing the drums and repairing the brakes where it is, make sure the parking brake is not on. It is possible that the parking brake was applied, and the cables are stuck. Try and grab a hold of the park brake cables just behind the drum and pull, tug, yank on them. That may free up a stuck cable.

Question: Hi I have a 2002 Chevy cavalier. Earlier today I hit one of those cement parking blocks pretty hard with my car. As I was pulling out if the drive my car jerked forward like I slammed on the brakes when I was really simply tapping it. However as I continued driving they went back to normal. Then later in as I was leaving a mall it did the same thing again but when back to normal. Any idea what's wrong?
Answer: So when you are pressing on the brake pedal normally it feels like you're slamming on the brakes?

Yes.
Ok. You may have something wrong with the front suspension. When hitting the brakes if something is loose it can cause it to jerk forward and give the feel you were talking about. You could have a broken motor mount or a lower control arm or even a ball joint.

Is there a reason my braking goes back to normal when I continue driving?
That is the strange part. It may be that whatever is loose or broken settles into its proper position for period Of time. Then when hitting the brakes just a certain way or pressure may cause the part to come loose again.

Yes it is really strange that it goes back to normal like that. How much is it to fix a motor mount, lower control arm, or ball joint? I've also heard it could need brake pad replacements or brake rotor replacements-could it be either of those?
It really does not sound like a brake part problem. It sounds like the action of breaking is causing something loose or broken to shipping. An estimate for the front upper engine mount on your car is approximately $150 parts and labor. a lower control arm or ball joint would be approximately 200 to 250 dollars.

Is it potentially dangerous if this isn't fixed right away?
Yes. Depending on what the problem is. I would get it looked at by a mechanic right away.
