Chevy S-10 Timing Chain And Gears

1999 CHEVY S-10.
2.2 Ecotec. CHECK ENGINE light.
Codes = FOR CRANK POSITION SENSOR. HAD TO REPLACE TIMING CHAIN, GEARS AND TENSIONER. TENSIONER CAME APART I CLEANED OUT THE OIL PAN. CLEANED CRANK POSITION SENSOR BUT IT STILL SHOWS A CODE CLEANED THE CAM SENSOR BUT MY TRUCK STILL MISFIRES CHANGED PLUGS AND WIRES AND CHECK THE COIL PACK.

Question:
THE TRUCK WILL NOT MISS FIRE IF I EASE ON THE THROTTLE OR KEEP patting THE THROTTLE WILL THE CRANK SENSOR CAUSE THIS?

Answer:
A crank or cam sensor would not cause the problems you describe. It does sound as if the timing is off a tooth or more. That would give crank / cam sensor codes, and the acceleration problem you are describing. Check to be sure the timing chain and gears are timed properly. It is also possible that a valve (s) may have gotten bent when the chain and tensioner broke. The higher the engine speed when it broke, the higher the possibility that a valve hit a piston.

Question:
I have a 2000 Chevy S-10, 4cyl. 2.2 liter engine. On days when it isn't cold and wet, damp, or just moist, the truck will not start on it's own. On days when it is sunny and that the this cylinder was not firing properly. Today it is cold and raining and now the truck won't start. Sometimes it seems like it might turn over and at times there is barely, it starts with no problem. I have replaced the coil pack for the 3rd cyl. because a diagnostic check said any contact. What is the problem.

Answer:
Could be a bad ignition module, or even bad spark plug wires causing your problem. Since it happens mostly when it's damp outside, that usually affects the ignition system on starting problems. A good way to check, is to spray down the ignition wires, coils, and module with water while trying to start the truck or while it is running to check and see if you can get it to act up.

That might help lead you in the right direction, especially if you can see wires arcing, etc. You may also want to check out the crank sensor, as that can cause an issue like the one you're experiencing if it is faulty. If the check engine light is on, get those codes so you can aid in diagnosis too.

Question:
It just quit on me. Its like its out of gas. It will crank over and you can hear the fuel pump and its getting fuel but it just will not start. I'm wondering if it could be the cam position sensor or the ignition coil pack. Lost my job and have a child and mother on oxygen living with me and I have been stranded now for a week. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I cannot afford a donation at this time but put you in my favorites and when I get my unemployment I will be happy to donate.

Answer:
Well, with any no start condition, you need to find out what is missing. Are you missing spark, fuel pressure, injector pulse? With the check engine light on, you would need to check for stored trouble codes. If no / low fuel pressure, the fuel pump is a common cause. Just because you hear the pump run, does not mean the pressure is high enough. This engine needs at least 55 psi. , or it will not start. Even a few lbs. less, it wont start. Banging on the center of the fuel tank will sometimes free-up a sticking / weak pump to allow it to start for a while. No spark can be a number of things. Coil, module, crank sensor, etc.
