Chevy Malibu Horn, Sunroof And Crank Sensor Relearn

1998 Chevy Malibu electrical problem. 2.4 litre engine.
Work done prior = Air conditioner coolant and freon. Question = My stereo went dead, checked fuses but seem to be okay. Then I found out my horn and my sunroof also don't work. What else can I check?

Answer:
With all of these things wrong, there must be a power loss somewhere. Don't know if the sunroof is factory or not. If it is, then there is no relation to these 3 problems. If it is not factory, then you need to find out where the roof gets it's power from, as this may be effecting the other circuits. You would need to either start tracing wires or get a schematic from the manufacturer.

Horns may just be bad horns. If you have power to the hrns and a ground circuit when pressing the button then the horns need to be replaced. The Radio may just be a bad radio. Be sure to check ALL fuses with a test light to make sure power into and out of fuses.

Problem with my 1997 Chevrolet Malibu. Work done to repair this problem = the crankshaft position sensor and harmonic balancer has been changed. Question = after changing the crankshaft position sensor a code stating that the crankshaft position variation relearn was not learned. What does that code mean and what do i have to do to clear this code so that the engine light will go off?

Car also has a code saying that the catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1. What does this mean and what do i have to do to clear this code so that the engine light will go off.

Answer: The crank position variance relearn needs to be done with a scanner. The code cannot be cleared until this procedure is done. This needs to be done because of the crank sensor replacement. The PCM needs to know the exact location of the craknshaft in order to properly time the ignition and fuel delivery. Hard starting may be a possible condition until this is performed. The light will stay on until this is performed.

The code for Catalyst threshold can be caused either by a faulty oxygen sensor, or a faulty catalytic converter. Reading the live sensor data with a scanner and testing of the oxygen sensor would be needed to determine which one is faulty so you do not waste money on just replacing parts.

Malibu LT 2004. I am contacting from Mexico. I need to know how to unlock the radio for my Malibu 2004, this one is the 6 disc in dash model. I bought it to replace the original which was stolen. I donĀ“t have any codes or anything to help. I read your answer for a chevy Malibu 2000 but that method did not work on mine maybe because the radio is different. If you need to ask for the backup codes, just let me know how to get the factory scramble codes and I will send you a tip/donation for your help.
Answer: Unfortunately this radio does not unlock as in prior model years. The process of getting a code from the radio and then entering a factory backup does not work anymore. That type procedure ended for most GM vehicles in the 2000 model year. Nowadays the only way to unlock a radio is with dealer scanner tool. The radio needs to be "set-up" for the VIN of the car it is installed in. This VIN set-up procedure with the scan tool sets the VIN #, speaker option, volume levels, etc.
