How To Replace Chevrolet Lumina Radio

Question:
1997 Chevy Lumina, 3.1 Liter. I recently bought a new radio and tried to put it in. But the problem is that I can't get the covers off. Do I have to crawl under the trashcan or something like that?

Answer:
In order to remove the radio, you will need to remove the dash cluster/radio trim panel. See picture below. To get that off, fist remove the knee bolster- the panel below the steering column, even with your knees. 2- Phillips or 7mm screws, then pull the top portion away from the dash to access the cluster trim. May be 2- 7mm screws in cluster trim panel going upward above the gauges. Remove those if it has them. Then pull panel from top. Pull away from dash, working you way around the panel. Tilt the column down to help removing trim while disconnecting any electrical connectors from behind the panel Now remove the radio.

Question:
My radio in my 2003 chevy Monte Carlo won't power up. I bought it used and even bought a new radio.

Answer:
Fist thing you need to do is check all the fuses. That may be your only problem. If the radio that was in the car when you bought it was not factory, then the wiring may be having a problem since non factory radios would have a wiring harness spliced into it.

If you took out a factory radio, and installed the correct factory radio, then it needs to be programmed from the dealer. These newer model radio security system need to be programmed, there is no unlock code like older models.
