1997 Buick Century Air Conditioning Vent Problems

Unread post by spinit » Fri Apr 30, 2010 6:33 pm

The air conditioning compressor, orfice tube and drier were replaced on this car about 1 year ago. The ac has been working fine since then. No other work has been done. The problem I am having now is that the air blows good and cold out the right center and right passenger vents. The air that blows out the left center and left side drivers vents is ambient temperture. The vent controls are just your basic controls with no thrills.

Any suggestions or ideas on what the problem might be and how to fix this would be appriciated.
Thanx

1990 Buick Century dash problems

Unread post by tenfive64 » Mon Jul 05, 2010 1:35 pm

My young cousin just got his first car. However, the dash seems to only work when the rear window defogger is on. When the defogger is off not only does the dash go dead but the "key in the ignition" buzzer starts buzzing.

Sounds like either a problem inside the control head, ignition switch or a ground problem. AGround problems can make several different circuits act goofy like that.

Just bought a 1999 buick regal 3800 it leaks coolant when first start, under engine
not sure sure if is coming from the recovery tank or water pump. Not overheating yet.

Best way to check is to use a pressure tester. This will pressurize the system then you can use a light and mirror to find the leak.

If you do not have access to these, a mirror at least to put it under the water pump pulley and look for a leak. Or look for orange corrosion.

Check behind the alternator, above the water pump. Often there are undetected leaks in the necks there that a ton of people don't even know exist. Invest in a good thick book on your car. A Chassis manual is usually about $10 on eBay, but worth so much more in my opinion.

Re: Hose

depending on make, model, year, engine and emissions it could be almost anything.

where on the engine does it go? (connect to?) What size hose are you talking about? Can you upload a picture of it?

is there any water leak? oil leak? vacuum leak? is there any noise from the hose? is there any air blowing out of the hose?

have you had this car for a while and just noticed this? or is this a "new to you" vehicle and you're concerned? Or, this is a car that you worked on and you don't remember this hose before? What made you notice that the hose doesn't look normal?

I have worked on a lot of vehicles and there are hoses and vacuum lines all over the place. Since you posted in Buick I suspect you are working on a Buick but even Buick, it has a lot of models and engine sizes. And the emission systems are different on specific models made for CA cars.
