1997 S-10 Wipers and Radio

Unread post by Mrdll » Thu Oct 11, 2012 9:32 am

I have a 1997 S-10 that when I turned on the wipers a few weeks ago, the radio staticted and the wipers slowed down and then quit along with the radio. I turned off and then on the wipers and everything was back for a few seconds when it did it again. I have replaced te wiper motor but it still does the same thing only now, nothing works. No wipers, no radio. If I push the volume button on the radio the time appears, but as soon as I turn it on, it all dissapears, and no wipers. Any one know where I need to look?

Sounds like a ground problem. Maybe the radio and wipers use the same ground. Check the wiring under the dash for something being loose.

Need a tad bit more info here, buddy. Are there any ABS codes present? Which sides do you mean? Front, rear, left, right? I need a better description to help you.

also would cleaning the brake sensor with brake cleaner possibly clear up this problem. dont know everything that has been done to this vehicle when buying used. brakes n rotors look good no unusual wear.

I'd really need to know the exact codes from the ABS system. Cleaning the sensor area usually does not help any. If it's been wrecked previously, I would definitely be looking at the wiring harness from both front wheels up to the EBCM and make sure it's good. A continuity check would come in handy here, as well. If the wiring checks ok, you could possibly have either both sensors that are bad, or even a faulty EBCM if everything on the front end checks out.

If you could get the codes posted here, I could hopefully give you a bit more information. One thing to remember, though, ABS codes are always 'C' (chassis) codes, and normally do not set 'B' (body) codes. If the scanner you are using does not support ABS, you will not be able to retrieve them properly.
