Can someone please tell me the proper procedure for checking the fluid level in my 2012 Impala? Is it done the same as the older vehicles with the engine running at operating temperature in Park? The owners manual says to take it to the dealer.
Thanks.

Re: 2012 Impala transmission fluid level
Yes, the procedure is the same. Let the car idle until it is at normal operating temperature.
While running at idle, pull the dipstick, wipe it, re-instert and remove to check the level.
Really should be no need to check it unless you have noticed a leak though.

Re: 2012 Impala transmission fluid level
Thanks Karl. The fluid is just touching the bottom of the dipstick. That's why I was wondering if there's a different procedure for the 6 speed transmission. I've also taken a good look for a leak and it's dry everywhere. Maybe it wasn't full right from the factory. That doesn't say much for the dealer that did the predelivery service.
Re: 2012 Impala transmission fluid level
Your right, it sure does not.
If you have some miles on it, the only place we have seen small leaks is toward the front drivers side, actually making the front lower air defrlector damp. This is from a leaking transmission cooler line.
But, this is usually after 20-30k miles. Not sure how many miles on yours.
You could always take it to any GM deeler to have them put it up in the air and inspect it. It's under Warranty of course.
