1998 1500 engine swap

Unread post by andrewrk » Mon Feb 08, 2010 4:41 pm

I need a little advice on swapping out the engine in my pickup. I recently blew the 4.3lt vortec that was in it stock and need a whole new engine. My idea was to drop a 5.0 or 5.7 in it. I was wondering what your inputs where on if it is worth it and how to go about it? ie. stay vortec & new comp, or carb? Mounting problems? Exaust setup?

Thanks, Andrew.

Well, all the above.
Engine mounting different, A/C, power steering, fuel lines, complete engine harness and computer, exhaust, and most likely several other things will need to be modified along the way.

All of that? I thought as long as I stayed with a small block of the simillar year there would be little needed?(engine mounts & power steering) I was anticipating on needing a new computer but thats why I was thinking running a carb, i live in a small city so there not to interested in emmisions standards.

1994 Chevy K1500 Engine swap

Unread post by jeter7 » Thu Mar 05, 2015 7:51 pm

I have a 1994 Chevy K1500 extended cab with a new 350 long block the Chevy Dealer put in after they ruined the my engine changing the intake gasket. I'm wondering if I can put this engine in a newer Chevy K1500 with a bad 350. I would like to have a extended cab with back doors or a 4 door pickup. If I can, what year can I go up to? What will I have to swap on the engine? Thanks for any help!

that really depends on the amount of work you can do to switch things over and the EPA regulations in your area. 94 has a throttle body fuel injection. If you are wondering how new you can go you should contact a wrecking yard in your area about what years are you able to do a drop in.

1996 they went away from the throttle body injection system. It gets very complicated if you start to change to a newer injector system.

It could be cheaper and easier to buy a truck that has everything you want and sell your old truck with the new engine. Just a thought
