Saturn has fluid on passenger side floor

Unread post by carrie5651 » Fri Jan 18, 2013 9:59 am

hi, the front passenger side floor carpeting is soaking wet with what seems to be some kind of oil solvent. where could this be coming from, and what needs to be done? will it be costly?

If the fluid feels oily, then i would have to say it probably antifreeze. If so, then your heater core is leaking.

Removal of most of the dash is required to replace it.

To be sure a pressure test of the cooling system would need to be done to check it.

I have a 2007 Saturn Aura XR with 59,000 miles

Unread post by maddad2012 » Thu Apr 11, 2013 3:12 pm

Hello I have a check engine light on. Two Codes P0017 and P0008. The dealership has suggested that I change the timing chain. The repair is about $1600. Is this a fair number? Is this a normal repair with such low mileage? Is this a repair that you can got to a repair shop to get it lower than the dealership?

Thank you,

This is not uncommon at all, and is a lot more problematic on the 2007-09 models. With the codes present that you posted, you definitely have a chain issue. The chains in the earlier models are of an inferior design and stretch over time causing the codes you have. There is also a problem with the cylinder heads and the camshafts walking back and forth from the excessive play. Usually when a chain job is done, there is normally a shim or shims put in to take up the slack between the end of the camshaft and head.

This is really a job you'd want a dealership to do. It is very labor intensive and involves many delicate procedures and special tools, so you'd want someone with experience on that car line to do the work.

The price they quoted you is very reasonable, and not at all out of line.

06 saturn ion3 cooling fan off when a/c is on

Unread post by robcon » Fri Sep 25, 2015 3:54 pm

My 2006 saturn ion3 a/c does not work when at lights or standing still. Works great when driving. Cooling fan does not come on unless engine is hot, but does come on. I'm a former auto tech, and wonder if I can hook up a relay to the compressor feed to turn on the cooling fan whenever the a/c is on,
because my guess is the problem is in the computer, which is giving no other problems. Any thoughts?

you are correct that the ECM turns on the fan. There are two relays. Relay fan 1 is in the underhood fuse box. relay fan2 is attached to the top corner of the radiator. Both fan relays have fuses in the underhood fuse box. Fuse 44 and 45 both 30A fuses. Both fuses should be hot all the time. The ecm grounds the relays to power up the fan. (fan1 dark green wire to the ecm) (fan2 dark blue wire to the ecm)

the ac clutch relay is also grounded by the ecm. (dark green and white wire to the ecm)

you should use a scanner and graph the signals for those three realays and see what they are doing when the ac is supposed to be working.

if you heard a pop noise I would look for a coolant hose that may have burst.

don't keep driving the car or it may overheat and cost a lot more than just fixing whatever is lea=king.

If you can't see where the leak is coming from by just looking at it you should take it somewhere where they can pressure test your cooling system and find it that way.

the cooling system is very important to your engine.find and repair the leak right away.

Hi thanks for the information, but come to find out my fan broke while driving and hit my radiator and put a hole in it causing my car to leak fluid and start to run hot.
