2000 GMC sierria 1500 - Heater will not turn off.
No power to anything with ignition switch in on position
I have a snowplow truck, 1976 GMC 4 wheel drive/auto tranny. The truck started fine and normal today and warmed up for 3-4 minutes before I put it in drive and it quit running like it sometimes does when not warmed up enough (it has done this ever since I bought it 6 years ago). Typically it will start right backup, warm up a little longer and runs fine. Today, when I tried to start it again, there was no pre-start buzzer and the heater fan did not run when the ignition key was at the on position and the starter did not roll over. The head lamps will not work with or without the key at the on position. Have checked the fuses and the engine compartment connections. The battery was charged after the last time I plowed snow which is typical procedure. When the truck was running, I did cycle the snowplow up/down and right/left which is typical before I put the truck in drive to move the truck. Overall, with the ignition switch in the on position there is no power to anything. Got any ideas as to what is the problem or what I should do/check next??
Re: No power to anything with ignition switch in on position
I'd say replace the ignition switch, that is a fairly common issue on the older trucks. Make sure you get the rods in the correct position when you install a new one.

location of fuses to fix problem
i have a 2005 gmc yukon slt I have no sound inside, ie. no warning chimes, stereo works no sound, dvd player works no sound, onstar works again no sound, having trouble finding fuse plz help
Re: location of fuses to fix problem
There is no fuse that is going to fix your problem.
It sounds like you have a bad amplifier.
This is what is in common with all of those things not working. All sound goes through the amplifier before going to the speakers. Even the chime uses the drivers side front speaker.
These are pretty common to fail.
The only real way to test it is to disconnect it, get a schematic, and jumper the connector wires. Jumper the intput wires from the radio to the output wires to the speakers. Basically getting the amp out of the system. Doing that should make the speakers work, confirming the amp is bad.

Re: cluster works part time
Two possible causes for this problem.
1. A bad ignition switch. The ignition feeds power to most of the trucks systems. Try taping on the head of the key with the truck running to see if the cluster goes on and off. If so, replace the ignition in the steering column
2. The dash cluster is bad. There was a recall on these a while ago, not sure if it is still in effect. Call your local dealer, tell them you want to know if the gauge cluster recall applies to your truck and give them the VIN number.

2000 GMC sierria 1500 - Heater will not turn off.
heat blower will not turn off using the selector or with the key off or removed. This happened 2 weeks ago and it killed my battery. Recharged it and problem went away. Today it happened again. while trying to find a solution I removed the 30amp front HVAC fuse from under the hood in the electrical center. This finally shut it off. when i reinstall the fuse it starts blowing again even with the key in my pocket. what could it be???? Blower motor Relay?????
Re: 2000 GMC sierria 1500 - Heater will not turn off.
it could be the blower resistor. they resistor used to be a series of cois use to reduce the fan speed. Now it's a small module. The module can short to power and keep the blower connected to the "power all the time" battery connection.

Re: 2000 GMC sierria 1500 - Heater will not turn off.
I did some troubleshooting and thats what i found. If i diconect the 30amp fuse under the hood the blower will now shut off it just will not work on five or high. I guess setings 1 thru 4 are fuse in the dash board 25 amp fuse and the 5 or high setting is the 30 amp under hood. this will work for me until I have the $$ and the time to replace the resistor module. Thanx
