HELP! What could be causing this?
Re: Ford Mustang cv boot
I believe only front wheel drive cars have CV boots. CV stands for "Constant Velocity" as in the joint at the front wheels that allows them to move while still transferring power from the transaxle to the from wheels. It does the same thing a U-joint does for your driveshaft ona a rear wheel drive car but in a slightly different manner. Because of the way they work they have boots surounding them to hold the grease in. U-joints dont have the boot.
HELP! What could be causing this?
I have a 1996 ford thunderbird lx. 4.6 engine. When I start my car the engine runs fine but as soon as the engine is warm and I put the car in drive it dies right away even when put in reverse. I have replaced coils spark plugs wires. When computer is hooked up it reads cylinder 3 misfire. What could be causing this?
Re: HELP! What could be causing this?
If the ignition components are good and functioning properly, that only leaves two things that can cause a misfire on that cylinder. The first would be a bad fuel injector, which is probably the most likely if you're sure the ignition parts are working good. The second would be a mechanical problem inside the engine, such as low compression due to broken or worn parts in the cylinder head or piston area. If cylinder 3 is a 'dead hole', meaning that it misfires constantly under all engine loads, then would either have an injector that is stuck/failed....or....a valvetrain/cylinder head/mechanical issue. Either of these would require some extensive checking and testing.

1999 Mustang GT Coil Pack Keeps Blowing Out
I've been having an issue with the coil pack (#6 cylinder) that keeps burning up with each new one I replace. I replaced the 2 prong pigtail connectors already, and just replaced with a new coil again today and it blew out instantly. Any help with this would be much appreciated. I'd like to see if it is something simple I could repair at home before having to take it in. Thank you
Re: 1999 Mustang GT Coil Pack Keeps Blowing Out
You're either using junk parts (aftermarket), or you have a short in the wiring somewhere. I'd recommend using original Ford parts for your car if you aren't already, and if so, inspect the entire harness going to back to the computer to see if there is a short, or chaffed wiring anywhere along the way. You can also try a continuity check, but that's not always accurate.

Re: 1999 Mustang GT Coil Pack Keeps Blowing Out
it's not going to be the coil that's bad. Check wiring at the coil pack. Red/light-green is the wire from fuse #34 a 20A that supplies power to the coil pack. Has power in start and run. The pink/white wire is for #6 & #2 from the pcm. Check for a short somewhere in in the pink/white wire if #6 in the coil pack keeps blowing out. A short will actually cause the coil to break. (a very small explosion inside the coil pack)

I have a V6 mustang. I caught a deer on the underbody of the car. a couple of days later my check engine light came on Got I checked out and said the throttle control sensor is loose or damaged. My question is where is the throttle control sensor is located? and is there any other places I need to troubleshoot? Thanks

my car has had an issue with burning oil about 1qt a month, I used seafoam in the crankcase by adding it to the oil, I did an oil change drove the car for around 100 miles after changing out seafoam oil and now my car smokes like crazy. the smoke is white and smells of oil, I have catch cans on both of my pcvs and they never fill up. the intake manifold is dry with 0 oil inside of it, I did a compression test (cyl 1:215, 2:215, 3:212, 4:210, 5:215, 6:212, 7:190, 8:190) and used a borescope to look at the piston tops. I cannot figure out the issue I assume it's the rings or head gasket, but I want to have professional input before I pull the motor.

How many miles is a months worth of driving? Using a quart in a thousand miles is not really considered TOO excessive. (by most manufactures) How many times do you fill gas in a month? If you fill up 4 times in a month then add a quart of oil every four fill ups. Way cheaper than rebuilding your engine. and you're sure there's no engine oil leaks? front or rear main seal... Valve cover gasket? Intake gasket? etc.
Burning oil is blue smoke. Black smoke is unburned fuel. White smoke is water or coolant (because coolant is mostly water). White smoke from a cold engine is condensation it the exhaust evaporating. That's why it goes away when everything warms up. Seafoam makes cars smoke. Was it smoking before the seafoam? It takes quite a while for seafoam to to stop smoking. There are some videos on youtube about the effects of seafoam.
If you have a light blue smoke on acceleration, that is usually rings. If you have the smoke on decell it's usually valve guides.
