1999 Jeep GC A/C and Heater problem

Unread post by KAT » Wed Jul 10, 2013 6:42 pm

Hi,
My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (98,000 miles) has an air conditioning problem. The a/c and heater have a mind of their own…sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. I checked the driver bender door shaft pin stop and found the pin stop is intact. I could manually rotate shaft 90 degrees and doors sound like they are opening and closing properly.

I unhooked my battery and calibrated AZC - HVAC system, then checked for fault codes. I have a 50 = Mode door travel range too large code. What is a mode door? After running the car again for a week I checked the fault codes again.

On the a/c dual temperature control display, the left temperature readout is brightly lit while sometimes the right temperature readout is dimly lit.

Help?

to clear the codes (which are history codes): after you read the codes on the vehicles display you press a/c or recirculate for 3 seconds while the display is in fault mode. this will only clear historical codes. Current codes cannot be cleared electronically. They have to be fixed.
