2008 H1500 Chevy Express ABS/Brake light on

Unread post by istvan » Tue Jan 08, 2013 9:34 am

I was having the problem of the ABS kicking in at every stop, so I had the wheel hub with sensors replaced. Now my ABS & Brake light are on and no one can figure out why or how to get them to go out.
I have noticed at times the lights do go out for a few seconds while driving, but come right back on.

Replacing the wheel sensors did stop the ABS from kicking in all the time, but now I don't know if my ABS is working at all with the dash light being on.

What should I look for?

H1500 2008 Chevy Express steering wheel clicking

Unread post by istvan » Tue Jan 08, 2013 9:40 am

When I turn my wheels full left or right I head a click noise like a relay click right at the end of wheel turn.

Is this normal, and what could it be?

Yes, the front hub/sensors are common for the ABS activating at slow speeds and wheen stopping. If the light is on again, you are going to have to get the ABS computer scanned.

You could have a rear sensor bad, a module problem, a wiring problem, etc. The code will tell what part of the system is having a problem.

It could be normal, as when you turn fully either direction you can hit the steering stops which can cause clicking or knock type noise. Also, sometimes the intermediate shaft can make a noise as it turns, which can be considered normal since it doesn't need to be replaced just for clicking. If you're not experiencing any trouble, I probably wouldn't worry about it.

I have a problem with left rear signal. It blows bcm fuse last 2 days. OK for a month before it goes again. Any suggestions?

that's going to be a tough one. I would look for a wire that may have been rubbed through somewhere. Follow the wire harness from the tail light to the BCM. However it might also be between the BCM fuse to the BCM. My wiring diagram shows three BCM fuses but they all just go to the BCM. I don't have a diagram of inside the BCM.

does it blow while you are driving? or does it blow while the van is parked and when you go to start the truck up you find out the light isn't working?

Intermittent shorts are hard to find. Direct shorts are easy because you just have to follow the circuit to the ground. Your short, because it takes time before it blows makes it much harder to find. You can't find a short if it isn't there. If you have a tone generator, a piezo beeper or something you can place inline with the fuse out and the tail light bulb out and wiggle the wiring around and see it you can find the short that way. It still may not show up... But maybe it will. Then you just have to insulate the short.
