Too much gas to engine on 1995 Dodge Dakota

Unread post by Azorbital » Sun Aug 29, 2010 1:00 pm

'95 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab 4x4 - hesitation, stalling, plugs black, eventually can't start until cooled down. Certified mechanic replaced entire fuel pump assembly, cleaned plugs, truck still doing same thing, plugs black again, strong odor of gas in engine. Can someone help?

Sounds like a fuel pressure regulator problem.

That is also what I see about your problem. A general overhauling is what your car needs based on the details you have given. You have to examine the whole parts and see to it that nobody will do it but an expert touches it.

Unread post by pbloom » Mon Jan 21, 2013 8:04 pm

I have a 2005 yellow dodge ram bumble bee. Somebody poured antifreeze in the gas tank and all the car does is shake. What do I do from here??

Well, a lot of things need to be done.
The gas tank is going to need to be dropped, drained and cleaned out.
The fuel pump is going to need to be tested for proper operation and possibly replaced.
The fuel lines are going to need to be cleaned out.
The fuel injectors need to be replaced.
The spark plugs need to be replaced.
The fuel rail needs to be cleaned.
Change the oil and filter.

After all the anitfreeze is cleaned out, it still is going to be hard to start and keep running until all the antifreze is burned out of the combustion chamber and cylinders.

White smoke is never a good sign. It usually means you're burning coolant along with the air/fuel mixture. This can be from a blown head gasket, cracked head or block, or other internal engine problem. It could be on one cylinder, or more than one cylinder. This will lead to engine failure if it isn't treated right away. You'll have to find the cause of the problem and go from there.
