I wouldn't recommend trying to 'check' the timing that way. You either have it right or you don't. Everything needs to be hooked back up like it should before you fire the engine.

use a scanner and do a minimum air flow test and check if the IAC is coked up and not responding to the idle demand fast enough. Also check the engine compartment for the wire harness rubbing anywhere when you steer left.

Durango fires right up no problem will idle all day fine. But when you hit accelerator while driving from a complete stop vehical lurches and sputters as if it is going to stall. If you let foot off accelerator and ease back on vehical will drive normal. Then once you stop vehical acts up again. I have noticed after vehical sputters I lose fuel gage as if tank is empty (its not). So I am thinking either electrical or a sensor.

coughing and sputtering on acceleration I would normally look at spark but losing your fuel gauge too I would look at wiring short circuit, chaffing or something like that.

you should drive it with a scanner hooked up and see what the computer sees when the problem occurs.

jump starting can cause problems. It can spike electrical components.

did you jump start this vehicle of use this vehicle to jump start someone else?

you might want to try disconnecting the battery, charge the battery up then reconnect and see what happens.
