Ford e150 van Engine stalling
Ford e150 van Engine stalling
1991 ford e150 club wagon van 302 5.0 starts great when it's not to cold but dies after about 20 to 30 minutes of running. New plugs wires cap ignition module air idle control and flushed out both tanks. Still having same problems as before. Any ideas on what the issue is?
Re: Ford e150 van Engine stalling
after the engine dies does it restart right away or will the engine crank over but not start for a while? If it turns over but doesn't start, that would be the time to check to see if you have lost spark, fuel pressure or injector pulse.
Re: Ford e150 van Engine stalling
It will just turn over but after about 15 to 30 minutes it will start and I can go again. But it will die again after about 20 minutes of running.
Re: Ford e150 van Engine stalling
it kinda sounds like the ignition control module might be getting hot and turning off. When it cools back down it will run again. You are going to have to check your spark out of the coil and injector pulse when it cranks and doesn't start to see what you're missing.
if you have a graphing meter or a lab scope you could back probe the control module and check for the spout (spark output) at the connector. The control module should be bolted to your distributor. If the module is the problem, most times, you may not be able to access the two bolts that hold it on. You may have to move the distributor to get at the bolts. It is very common for the distributor to be stuck. And I mean really stuck. be careful when trying to break it loose. sometimes the distributor can be damaged it you aren't careful. But, that's just if you have to change the module.

Re: Ford e150 van Engine stalling
Already changed it out and still does the same thing. And I don't have the tools to check the other stuff, so I guess it's off to the shop. Although a friend said the fuel line may be vapor locking.
Re: Ford e150 van Engine stalling
yea, you really need to test it when it won't stay running. Vapor lock is possible but more rare than it used to be. Fuel pump, fuel pressure, ECM even a shorted injector are possibilities
