98 windstar transmission drive in neutral.

Unread post by Taly » Mon Feb 04, 2013 1:51 am

hello again.
I have now a 98 windstar with traction control.
one day I turned on the engine and all good no noise or vibration.
but when I pull the lever to get the gear I hear a big blow
and when I put the gear in reverse did not move, I move to the drive position and did not move and when I put it in neutral began to move to the front and drive for about 5 miles and it worked fine but when trying to put back the more gears to not work and put in parking wanted to move forward and make a noise as of something breaking.
transmission will need replacement or repair is easy?.
I am dedicated to buying and selling used cars and sometimes need repair and I really like auto mechanics.
Thanks for everything.

If you heard some strange noise and have the gears acting the way they are, then yes you are going to need a new transmission.

Probably not even worth taking apart and trying to repair.

Just put in a used one or a rebuilt unit.

To be sure, you would have to check with your local dealer or even a junkyard so they can use their cross reference books.
