shift system fault on display

Unread post by guest » Fri Jan 03, 2025 5:25 pm

When I put my 2017 Ford fusion in gear it says on the display " shift system fault" and when I put it in gear it says neutral on the display but it is in drive and the light is flashing by the gear shift.

the shift by wire system is unable to engage a specific gear. Or it can be stuck in a gear. Or it can't figure what gear it is in. You need to scan for the code that is making the light come on.

there are different parts that need to talk to each other. the gearshift module, the power control module and the transmission range control module...

there could be a problem with the shift cable. If the shifter doesn't match the trans it will set a code. If there are any codes stored check them out first then check out the tcrm. It could be a transmission range control module (trcm) needs an update reprogram or replacement. Updated with the latest software, clear codes and perform the tcrm self test.

Scanning to find out what codes are stored will give you a direction to go.
