1999 Mustang GT Coil Pack Keeps Blowing Out
1999 Mustang GT Coil Pack Keeps Blowing Out
I've been having an issue with the coil pack (#6 cylinder) that keeps burning up with each new one I replace. I replaced the 2 prong pigtail connectors already, and just replaced with a new coil again today and it blew out instantly. Any help with this would be much appreciated. I'd like to see if it is something simple I could repair at home before having to take it in. Thank you

You're either using junk parts (aftermarket), or you have a short in the wiring somewhere. I'd recommend using original Ford parts for your car if you aren't already, and if so, inspect the entire harness going to back to the computer to see if there is a short, or chaffed wiring anywhere along the way. You can also try a continuity check, but that's not always accurate.

Re: 1999 Mustang GT Coil Pack Keeps Blowing Out
it's not going to be the coil that's bad. Check wiring at the coil pack. Red/light-green is the wire from fuse #34 a 20A that supplies power to the coil pack. Has power in start and run. The pink/white wire is for #6 & #2 from the pcm. Check for a short somewhere in in the pink/white wire if #6 in the coil pack keeps blowing out. A short will actually cause the coil to break. (a very small explosion inside the coil pack)
