1 1have a 95' g2500 vandura . it has had a full tune up , changed out MAP sensor, oxygen sensor ,full flush of coolant system , had a mechanic check through the spark plugs and get a clean bill of health however it will emits smoke and will stall within 2 milesw of driving . it runs strong untilit just gives up . It has been in the garage 2x now with the same complaint and because they dont drive it around town it doesnt show them whats going on .
things I have replaced to try to fix this .
MAP sensor
Ignition module
Ignition coil
Oxygen sensor
Fuel pressure regulator
All new plugs / wires / distributer cap .
New air filter .
Fuel filter
Complete flush of the coolant system
PLEASE HELP !!!!

Re: 95' GMC G2500 5.7 won't stay running
that could be a lot of things. will it stall if you just let it idle for a while or do you have to drive it. I would think that if it stalls in a couple of minutes that the shop you take it to would test drive it and it should happen to them. They should drive it with a scanner on it and see what the data stream shows happen just before it died. Losing the crank signal, losing fuel pressure, whatever...
looking at the fuel trims and rpm signals might help locate a problem.
Here's another question, After the engine stalls, does it restart? After it stalls out can you restart the engine and drive again or does it not start and you have to wait to be able to start it again? And, if you have to wait how long do you have to wait. Minutes, hours or days?

Starts no problem and drives for what seems to be up until thermostat reaches operating temp , stop at a light and try to accelerate and then wants to stall , can't touch the gas pedal or will stall for certain ( idles no issue ) Once it stalls it needs hours to restart and then does the exact same thing . Smoke from the exhaust , (fuel spatter ? ) I think blowing out the tail pipe when reving the engine . Also most recently put a new air filter on .

there are things you probably have to check after the vehicle has stalled. If you had a scanner with data stream, you could watch your fuel trims to see if the engine has starved for fuel or if the engine has flooded from too much fuel. Once the engine has stalled measure your fuel pressure to see if it is within the manufacturer's spec. When it won't run are you getting the correct spark? are you getting the correct injector pulse?
If it doesn't happen until the engine is warmed up, tell the shop that looks at it that they should let it idle until it is at it's normal operating temp and then drive it to see if it acts up.
have you checked for excessive exhaust backpressure?
