305 Vortec Intake Plenum Hole

what would make the plenum on my 96 chevy pickup a 305 vortic blow a hole in the plenum whan i tryed to start it

The only way i can see blowing a hole in the intake manufold plenum is that the engine backfired real bad. This can be caused by the ignition timing being off, loaded up with fuel, engine timing being off as in a timing chain that jumped, or there is a worn lobe on the camshaft.

i found out what was wrong it was the fuel pressure regulator want out there was to much gas in the plenum when i tryed to start it it blow thank you for your reply

Ahh yes. The old fuel pressure regulator problem. Yep, that would cause a bad backfire !

had crank no start, chkd coil lead, got 12v, check coil white lead had probe light flash(icm good), replaced coil, now arcing from postr to body of coil

electricity always looks for the easiest path to ground. check your coil wire and distributor rotor for too high a resistance. Check the spark plug wires and plugs if the other parts check out okay.
