Not sure how removing the facia could cause a problem with the FACTORY security system, but here is a relearn procdure that may help...
•Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
•Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
•Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
•Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
•Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
Important: The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

•Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password.
•With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. The history DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

This is actually a pretty difficult job. The antenna cable from the base goes through the firewall right up alongside the right side of the firewall. You need to remove the glove box to get a better view of where the cable goes. It is extremely tight is it goes through their. After you remove the base, and find the end of the cable under the dash, tie a thin piece of wire to the end of the cable and pulled out from under the hood. Then use that wire to pull the new cable back through the dash.

It is located under the hood on the passenger side, on top of the wheel well.

1992 gmc safari won't start

Unread post by dpk53 » Mon Sep 15, 2014 7:30 am

have a 1992 gmc safari van. engine cranks but will not "hit" to start. appears to not be getting fuel.
tank if full and running yesterday.
was told to turn key on and listen for fuel pump to turn on. heard no sound
possible no electric to fuel pump. bad fuse? bad fuel relay? or just a bad
fuel pump?

8th digit in the vin# W or a Z? tells me if it is cpi or tbi.

you do have a fuel pump relay that should have your two second prime when you first turn your key to the run position. Uses the ECM B fuse. From your fuel pump relay you should have a gray and an orange wire. those are the wires the power up the pump. by putting a heat bulb between those two wires you can check to see it you have power and ground going back to the pump. you could still have a wiring problem back by the tank but it will give you a clue by telling you that the relay and ecm are working to get the fuel pump going.

have someone turn the key while you bang on the bottom of the fuel tank. many times jarring the tanl will get the fuel pump going again. If it starts, plan on getting a new fuel pump because it is going out.

vin code W means that your engine should be a CPI. fuel pressure should be 54 to 64 psi.
