GMC Envoy Code P0106 Map Sensor and stalls at idle

Unread post by alexcaneda21 » Tue Jan 01, 2013 2:35 pm

I have a GMC envoy. The truck shuts down at idle, checked codes and found inactive code P0106. What can I do to repair this.

Well, the code P0106 is for the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor, or better known as a MAP sensor. This is a pretty common thing and changing the sensor and clearing the code will usually fix this right up.

As for the shutting down at idle, that could be related to the MAP sensor, but also could just be due to a dirty throttle body. This is also quite common for the Envoy's, where the throttle body gets an excessive build up of carbon deposits and restricts airflow, mainly at idle. This can cause the vehicle to die out or stall. An easy fix is to thoroughly clean the throttle bore with a good parts cleaner. Once done, you need to drive it a bit for the vehicle to 'learn' a new idle position for the throttle blade. This can take anywhere from a couple minutes to quite a long drive in a warm vehicle. Good Luck!
