2004 Chevy Trailblazer Low Beam Headlights

Unread post by wefish4 » Wed Jan 16, 2013 9:53 am

I have a 2004 trailblazer that the low beam headlamps are not working. The fuses are good and I switched the hdm and fan clutch relay and still nothing.

If you're sure that relay isn't the issue, I'd have to recommend you take out and check each low beam bulb out of the headlamp. Possibly you just have two burnt out bulbs.

Another common problem is the connector that plugs into each bulb can burn up at the contacts, which you can see if you take a close look. The connector plastic will look melted a bit and/or burned, as will the terminal inside. If this is the case, you will need to wire in a new socket.

If neither bulb is burnt out and both connectors look ok, I'd start looking in the headlamp switch area for issues.

I feel like at least one of bulbs is good, as I had to replace one about 60 days ago, I was thinking dimmer switch. Not being that familiar with the lighting system, I was wondering if the dimmer switch is built in with the light switch.

The dimmer switch is part of the headlamp switch assembly. You should really make sure the switch is the problem before replacing it, but you'd have to be familiar with some wiring diagnosis, like checking to make sure you have power to it, from it, and the grounds are good, etc.

I went for it. It was not the light switch. I checked the power at the relay putting a jumper in the number 4 pin to 12 volts and the dim lights come on. There can't be many pieces of this puzzle left that it can be.

Yeah, I didn't figure it was a switch either. If you can jump power at the relay and lights come on, that at least tells you everything from there forward is ok. So you're either looking at a wiring problem between the fuse block and headlamp switch, or a component. I'd start tracing the wiring from the fuse block back into the cabin and go from there. You can keep trying to put voltage on the circuit as you work your way back and find the problem a bit easier that way.

We are having the same problem ...no low beams even after replacing the bulbs. Tried switching the HDM... did as described on your site and now the car has no power. switched back ...still no power. Help! I need my car..now it won't even start! Susan
