Have you checked the power steering fluid?
Is the noise from the engine, or inside the car?

Have you checked your idler pulley. Bearing could be worn or any of the bearings run by the main belt, ie alternator

During acceleration is usually power steering but you said before too, so I would lean more towards idler pulley.
The idler pulley (usually 2- one on a tensioner and the second stationary) should have play in it (motor off of course if you want to keep all your fingers) and you can check by trying to shake them. Bear in mind they're supposed to be replaced but rarely are.
If it's the power steering you should hear it more while in park and turning the wheels with the motor running. You don't need to run it to the stops for it to whine- it will with very little movement of the wheel.
