Battery light won’t go out

Unread post by Larry614 » Wed Oct 27, 2021 6:59 pm

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4.3L V6. My Battery light came on & then would go out every time I drove it then it came on & never extinguished. I got it checked & it was a voltage regulator bad. I bought a new alt & recharged my battery. Cranked it up Battery light came on went out like it’s supposed to but then It came back on & stayed on. Anyone have any solutions to this problem? Also replaced serpentine belt.

who diagnosed the regulator? What did they use to diagnose it? On a 2000 silverado it should be PCM controlled.

here is a wiring diagram for that year:

you should use a scanner and check to see what the computer is reading. Is the PCM seeing a charging voltage? Is it sending a duty cycle signal to the alternator? Is the signal for the light on the dash getting the correct signal? You may have to scan the instrument cluster too.
