Transmission Problems On 2004 Chevy Silveraod 2500HD

Unread post by ste-vt2 » Fri Dec 31, 2010 9:20 am

Silverado 2004 2500HD 4X4, had GM rebuilt Trans installed after loosing reverse. Speedometer works intermittently along with ABS and Parking brake warning lights coming on whenever speedometer stops working. Don't see any loose wires but not sure where to look. Trans is shifting too hard and at funny times but expect this to resolve itself as trans "learns". Any advise? Fluid is fine...

Update, Truck shifts fine when speedo works and trouble lights are out, Shifts agressive or not at all when speedo stops working and trouble lights come on. Happens whenever I coast and at random times. Doesn't seem to be related to bumps or rough road. Batterery terminals are tight and all wire connections seem to be fine. Fluid is good and dextron 3 was used...

Seems like the speedo is the key to the whole problem. The transmission shifts are based off output speed sensor(vehicle speed sensor). No speedo means no output speed sensor signal. ABS and park brake should not be related, but may be. This sensor is located on the back of the transfer case. Also check for a loose or broken ground wire located on the top of the passenger side cylinder head. Up against the firewall. Pull on the wires there to see if a 2 wire terminal breaks off the eylit for the ground. I believe they are both black with a yellow stripe. This ground could also be the problem with the other problems.
