What is |\| with a dit in middle angle line mean?

from your description I would think it's for the throttle. If you could take a picture and crop out just the light you have the question ( and upload it here) about that would make it easier to figure out. But, the picture you describe kind of looks like the throttle in the middle of the throttle body.
