Blower resistor burnout ?

Unread post by fullmonty » Mon May 13, 2013 1:59 pm

I have replaced the blower motor resistor 3 times for some reason they last 2-3 months and just stops ??? NOTE, I have possibly notice it works fine in AC mode, but may be burning out when using Defrost mode ??? could it be the switch itself ??

The blower resistor has no common thread between what mode is chosen on the control head. Whether you have it on A/C, defrost, or what ever...the only signal it receives is from the fan switch. Are you using GM parts? If you're installing a cheap aftermarket part, that's why you keep replacing it.

Thank you, it is an aftermarket part, and has a year warranty, the parts store insist that they will not honor the warranty as something is causing the burnout, they say it is not their faulty part ??? could it be a the blower motor not functioning properly ? again it last about 2-3 months.....thank you for your knowledge and expertise.

Not that it couldn't possibly be a blower motor causing excessive draw through the resistor assembly, but more than likely it's just junk aftermarket parts. If they won't honor the warranty, you should buy a GM resistor and see if the same thing happens....which it probably won't.

Thank you very much for the input help, and yes if this last installed one burns out in 2-3 months, then I will definitely buy GM replacement.
