I have 2003 chey impala and the temp gauga gose to half way intill fans come onis the ok

Yes, this is normal. The gauge being at the half way point is about 220 degrees. That is the temperature that the fans will come on low speed.

Yes, high speed fans come on at about 250 degrees. That is about 3/4 gauge.
