Camaro Burns Oil- Security light

Unread post by Camaroash51 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 9:53 pm

I have a 95 Camaro and the oil is burning out of it really quick. I don't know why it's doing this. I've had to put an oil plug on it. The oil has just been changed, also the oil and air filter has been changed. Today I was coming back from the store and it didn't want to change gears it was just wanting to stay in the same gear.

Sounds like you have a couple different problems here. The oil burning can be anything from worn pistion rings or leaking valve seals due to a worn out engine, or an engine with a lot of miles. The quicker it burns oil, the bigger the problem you have. You may end up needing a complete engine overhaul or even replacement. As for it not wanting to change gears, that is usually the tell-tale sign of a transmission that's on it's way out. Looks like you've got some big dollar problems, so you'd have to decide if the car is worth keeping since it might not be worth enough to invest a few thousand dollars into.

You have the little chip in the ignition key, correct? Did you give the repair shop the exact key you normally use, and are you using it now?

No, not a fuse. Probably the common problem described here- GM Passkey System Common Problem
May just be a coincidence it started after the engine repairs. This is a common problem.
