I own a 98 malibu 3.1L. When replacing the engine does it have to come out through the bottom or can it be done through the top?
Where can i find step by step directions for removal and installation?

Re: 98 malibu engine replacement
When replacing the engine on your vehicle, it does come out the top like a usual engine swap. There would be a lot more work involved to remove it out the bottom of the car. As for step by step instructions, you would have to find a service manual for that particular car.

No way you should drop the engine out the bottom of your Chevy Malibu. The only reason to do that is if you are going to replace the transmission too.
Almost any car will come out through the top. The newer SUV's all come out the bottom though.
