Problem with my 1997 Chevy Lumina
3.1 V6
SES GM Computer codes P0440.
I keep getting a P0440 code. Is there any typical problems with the 97 luminas related to this code?
SES Code P0440 Evap System
Re: SES Code P0440 Evap System
This code P0440 is an overall Evaporative Emission System problem.
There could be many reasons for this.
A leak in the system caused by a faulty vent solenoid in the rear of the car is a common failure, as is a loose or faulty gas cap. Try cleaning the seal on the gas cap, and the surface on the fill tube where the cap screws onto. Then clear codes.
A scanner is really needed to lool at system data, as well as control the components to find the failure. There is also a special tool to pressurize the system with nitrogen and look for leaks.
