Chevy Cavalier pulling too much air

Unread post by don't know anymore » Mon Sep 27, 2010 7:00 pm

ok guys, figure this one out and you're a genius. changed the pc valve today like someone told me too, no help. this engine is pulling too much air, restrict the air flow with the hose connecting the front valve cover to the air cleaner hose and the car runs fine. release the air and the car starts missing again. any help would be greatly appreciated. Have spent all kinds of money, and time trying to get this car to run right. please help

Just so i understand correctly, you pull the hose off the front valve cover and plug the hose, not the valve cover?
What happens if the hoses are all conneted, and you remove the oil filler cap?

ok, unclamped the hose to let it run without restriction, pulled the oil filler cap off and it was pulling air through it too. now what? pulling so much air that I thought the cap wasn't unscrewed all the way. had to pull on it because of the air being pulled through.

Any work done just prior to this condition?

If it only started as a misfire, and now you have this vacuum problem, you may have caused it by accident. I would suspect a gasket problem after checking the injectors.

ok, I'll re-work the intake gaskets this weekend and see if that will fix the problem. Thanks for your suggestion, I have asked someone before if that could be the problem, and they had said no it wasn't. But I'll re-do them and see. Thanks and will keep you posted.
