Is the BCM bad on my car?

Unread post by alro50 » Sat Aug 17, 2013 10:37 am

I have a 2004 Grand Prix when the drivers door is opened I get a loud buzz from the radio. I also see on the display that abs needs servicing traction control off etc. I suspect the BCM am I headed in the right direction?

ok, ABS and traction control usually go through the ECMB electronic brake control module then to instrument cluster and the BCM body control module. That's three different modules that all talk to each other. You should have your vehicle scanned to see what the reason for the warning light.

does the buzz sound kind of go along with the dome light operation? and comes from the left rear speaker? there is a tsb for that.

Reference Number(s): 03-08-44-015, Date of Issue: August 25, 2003
PONTIAC:2004 Grand Prix with Custom (Monsoon) Speaker System (RPO U87)
SECTION:08 - Body and Accessories

it goes into rewiring the connectors.

If I start the car the buzzing/static comes from all 4 speakers and stays as long as the key is in the ignition, also the door chime does not sound with door open and key in ignition. Without the key in the ignition the buzzing stops after about 15 seconds and also is more intense until dome light turns off. This started after the battery ran down, it sat for 5 weeks and I had to charge the battery to get it started.I think that by charging I zapped one of the modules or messed up the program in one or all of them.

have someone scan the modules. does the noise stay on with the radio and both on and off? Something you might try is disconnecting both of your battery cables from the battery and touching the cables together. That would release voltage saved up in capacitors. then re connect the battery normally. Positive first and the ground cable last. See if the computers reset. If that doesn't do anything you will probably need to have it scanned and look for problems.

Here is what I found. The radio(stock) was bad, internally shorted, and the ABS light was caused by a bad cable to the rotation sensor.

hey, congrats. I'm glad you didn't buy the BCM and pay for reprogramming to find out it wasn't the problem. That's great. How did you find out about the bad ABS speed sensor cable?
