Pontiac Bonneville battery gauge drops

Unread post by jean00 » Mon Jan 07, 2013 10:35 am

i have a 2000 pontiac bonneville. the battery or volt guage moves to the middle when i start the car, but after a few minutes it will drop all the way to the left. have replaced the alternator and car works great but guage is still not working. is there a fuse or sensor for this guage? any suggestions would be welcome.

It's probably an actual problem with the instrument cluster. If you're absolutely sure the alternator is putting out, it should be reading on the gauge. I've seen this happen before and have replaced many instrument clusters for this problem.

If you do end up needing a new cluster, you'd have to get it through your local GM dealership. I would not recommend putting a used or junkyard piece in your car.
