Buick Lucerne engine shutdown

Unread post by dsanders » Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:05 pm

I have a Buick Lucerne LS 2006. Just yesterday I was stopped and the engine just shut off.

I waited 10-15 minutes and was able to restart engine. I drove about 2-3 miles and the same
exact thing just repeated itself. Again in 10-15 minutes I was able to restart engine again.

I had a new ignition key made a few weeks ago and wonder if it could cause this problem.

No, the new key would not have anything to do with this problem.
Sounds lilke you may have a fuel pressure or loss of ignition spark problem.
You would need to have fuel pressure checked when it stalls and is not restarting. Low or no fuel pressure may be the sign of a failing fuel pump. No spark at this time may be a faulty ignition module.

The coolant temperature sensor is located on the drivers side of the rear cylinder head. Remove the intake air duct to get a view of it.

Unread post by wandagholmes » Mon Aug 12, 2013 11:53 pm

I have a 2006 Buick Lucerne. I had the waterpump and the thermostst replaced and it is even now running hot. It will chill off for a touch however then again to hot, and now it won't turnover when attempting to start. Does anybody have any prescriptions or do I have to take it to any car mechanic shop???

so what does happen when you go to start your car? Does the engine crank over normally but just doesn't start? Does it not even crank over? Do you just hear a big click and then nothing? Or nothing happens when you turn the ignition switch to start?
