how to remove front struts from a 1996 Buick Park Avenue
how to remove the front struts from a 196 Buick Park Avenue ? Will the strut assembly simply unbolt or does that spring go crasy wild? -thanks!
Re: how to remove front struts from a 1996 Buick Park Avenue
the front strut will come out as a unit with the spring. remove the three bolts on the top of the strut tower. Then the two bolts that hold the strut to the steering knuckle. On the two at the steering knuckle, Take the nuts off and then you may have to hammer the bolts if they still have the splines in tact. Just remember not to touch the bug nut on the top of the strut. That's the nut that can make the spring go crazy wild.
also, take the tire off and make sure that the suspension is hanging suspended in the air.remove the two big bolts that connect the strut to the steering knuckle first. Once you have the bolts removed push the bottom of the strut inward towards the engine to separate the strut from the steering knuckle. Do not pull the steering knuckle out to separate. Once separated you can move the steering knuckle to the front or the rear to make it easier to remove the strut when you unbolt the top three bolts. DO NOT pull the steering knuckle out to remove the strut or let hang on it's own weight after the strut has been removed. (bungee cord works well to hold the knuckle from falling outward) It could pull the axle out of the transmission and pour trans fluid all over your floor.
Once you get the strut assembly out what are you going to do?
