2004 Buick Lesabre Transmission Shifting Hard

Hi,
We are having problems with our 2004 Buick Lesabre taking a long time to shift. Once it shifts it runs great. You have to rev it at a high rpm, and then back down on it and it will shift. It almost seems like something is not opening up in order to allow it to shift into gear. Does this sound crazy? Someone told us it was possibly a bad modulator or sensor. How much do these cost, is it hard to get at, and could my husband do it himself?

If your Buick has a vacuum modulator, it is on the drivers side front of the transmission. Open the hood and look down between the radiator and transmission. It would have a vauum line going to it. But i do not think your car has one.

This is old technology that used to cause late shifting on old cars. Todays cars are electronically controlled. You are describing a transmission slip.

You can try to do a fluid and filter change, that may help. But most likley the transmission needs to removed and repaired. Could be a problem in the valve body, or it is just worn out and needs an overhaul.

When you have a quad driver code, that usually means you need to replace the computer. The torque converter clutch (TCC) sticking on will cause the car to die out as you come to a stop, especially if it has been driven at higher speeds. Normally that requires replacement of the TCC solenoid, and/or the wiring harness inside the transmission.

I have a 2003buick la saber 3800serirs II , and it loading shifting ,put it I 1st gear to take off, I shift to second and if won't get the next gear

I am not understanding... what happens when you just put it in drive? It is an automatic, right? Why do you put it in first and then shift into second?

the transmission should be a computer controlled trans.

Have you checked your trans fluid level? If it's very low you may be running it out of fluid.

you should have your vehicle scanned. See if there are any trans codes. Scan the trans to see what the pressures are and what is happening when you drive it.

If it works in first gear, can you get it going up fast enough to put it into drive and skip second? Don't over rev the engine but get it up to a speed that third gear would drive at. If the trans continues after that then second gear may be gone. Need a trans rebuild.
