How To Check Brake Fluid
Clean off the brake fluid reservoir before removing. Some reservoirs have a FULL mark. If fluid is low, have the brake pads/shoes inspected for wear, and the system inspected for leaks.
Red brake warning light
This is usually an indicator of low brake fluid. Be sure to check brake fluid in the master cylinder
reservoir. If it is low, then the brake system should be checked for leaks or worn brake pads or
shoes.
If the brakes fluid in the reservoir gets too low, air will enter the system and cause a low brake
pedal, and a poor or no stopping condition.
This light is different from the ABS brake warning.
But a problem in the normal braking system can cause the antilock light to come on.
Question:
Front passenger brake leak. Was told it was a little washer gasket that goes on brake line. How to fix? 1997 Pontiac Torrent.
Answer:
Yes. There are 2 brass washers on the bolt that holds the brake hose to the caliper. Remove the bolt so the hose comes off the caliper, slide the bolt out of the hose and replace the 2 washers. One washer on either side of the hose fitting.
