dash lights = service engine soon
tech = MW
question = Would it be difficult for a fairly skilled auto hobbyist to
replace the Exhaust Gas Recirculation(EGR) valve that is tripping the
OBDII P1404 code, or would I be better off taking it somewhere to get it
fixed, my problem is that I am a full time college student working
part time, and my budget next to nothing, because I have no help from
anyone. Thank you so much for any response you can offer.

Check engine light code P1404 EGR valve
MW:
Hello and welcome. Yes, if you have some mechanical knowledge, you
should be able to perform this replacement. Just remove the 2 bolts
and the valve comes off. Be sure to replace the gasket under it. Note:
that code has also been related to carbon in the valve making it stick.
You may want to remove it, tap in on the floor and see if a bunch of
carbon comes out. Also use a small screwdriver and make sure that the
valve pintle/pintles are not stuck. They should be able to be pushed
into the valve easily.

Warning lights: check engine light.
Computer codes: bank 1 sensor 3
Question = i had the codes ran for check engine light and the mechanic told me it was BANK ONE
SENSOR 3. I dont know the location
Answer: You're talking about the heated oxygen
sensors on your vehicle. Bank 1 is the left bank of
the engine, and Bank 2 is the right side. When you
have a Bank 1 Sensor 3 code, it is always the
furthest oxygen sensor from the engine, usually right
past the catalytic converter. Since both banks go
into a single pipe, bank 1 is the continuation of the
series. So you need to replace the oxygen sensor
past the back side of the catalytic converter.
