How do I replace the alternator? Where is it located? Haynes book
repair is too expensive for an old car.

Hello and welcome. The alternator is quite difficult to remove. It comes up through
the top, but several bolts are only accessible from underneath. Do not completely
remove belt, just release tensioner(using 1/2 in. extension in tensioner) and slide
belt off, leaving in position. The belt is difficult to reinstall if removed. Remove
upper radiator cover. The alt. will come up through there past the fans, but is
very tight.
