1999 Chevy Suburban Truck.
Dear JK: My Gas Gauge seems to not be working accurately.
At times, I can fill my tank and it reads less than eighth of tank or E.
Other times I know I am almost on empty and the gas gauge is showing
almost full. It seems to fluctuate tremendously even when I am driving.
Is there an easy fix to this?
JK:
That is a common problem with that, and similar vehicles. You need to have the "fuel
level sensor" replaced. That sensor is in the fuel tank, and attached to the fuel pump
module. The fuel tank will need to come out. Also, whoever does the repairs needs to
look closely at the wiring connector for the assembly. They also have a tendency to
burn.

Repairs= new fuel filter, new cap and rotor button, set timing to specs
Question = what would cause my truck to stall while sitting still in gear, and only when outside temp
is above 50 degrees?
Answer: A lot of possibilities there that can cause that
problem. If the timing was set correctly, and that includes
uplugging the ESC connector while doing the procedure,
then that shouldn't be an issue. A bad coil, or even plugs
and wires can do this at times. You could even have a cam
that is going flat if you have a lot of miles on the truck or
have driven it hard over the years. 1987 was a year where
they were dumping carburetors and going with throttle body
injection, and not knowing which you have I can only guess
at a few things. If you have a carb, I'm sure it probably needs
a good cleaning/rebuild/adjustment. A throttle body can gum
up too and injectors can go bad over the years. Quite a few
things to check that can all cause driveability issues.
