1996 Cadillac Deville.
Question: my 96 Cadillac Deville is possessed! Well, not really, but
here are the problems. Something is draining the battery/power and
my car will run for a few days and then some days it wont start unless
i get a jump. There is a brand new battery in the car and i had the
battery cables changed "according to what the mechanic told me".
Still, the car is losing power. Also, the car's information computer is
also displaying "theft system problem, car may not restart". i am
unable to use the key pad devise to open the fuel door, trunk, or
unlock the doors. Also keypad/chain battery was put in the devise,
but it still does not work. Also, the headlights will go off after the car is
shut off but mysteriously turns back on minutes later. Please tell me
what the problem.
Answer: You could have multiple problems causing these issues on
your Cadillac. First off, you most likely have a parasitic draw on the
battery that is draining it and causing you to need a jump to start it.
New battery cables won't help that situation. You would need to make
sure everything is powered off and check for a draw with a multimeter.
If you have more than .050 amp showing, then you have a problem.
You'd need to check each circuit on the car for a short, or a module
staying on, or something aftermarket being wired in and messing up.
The headlights coming back on after they go off could be your
problem. The transmitter for the locks/trunk, etc, might need to be
reprogrammed as well to get it working properly. Finally, the theft
issue could be due to the battery losing power, or you could have a
bad key or ignition cylinder, or passlock sensor. All of this would need
to be checked out by a professional.
