1996 Pontiac Grand AM SE 3.1 abs, theft system, seat belt, ets.
Question = My car won't start. It acts like there's no gas in the car.
But I have three quarter tank. The theft system light is on. I tried to
turn the key to the on position for ten minutes but it didn't work. My
friend told me I had no spark, and my fuel pump did not kick on. If its
the passlock system, is there a quick fix for my problem. Someone
said its the anti-theft system. And somebody else said that its
probably the ignition. Are there any quick fixes so I can get to work
for a week. Then I can take it to the shop when I get paid. HELP. I'm
drowning.
Answer: Unfortunately, there are no quick fixes for a problem like
yours. Without actually seeing the car, it would be difficult to
determine if you have a theft problem or some other issue. Since you
say the theft light stays on, it would be best to assume that the
problem lies in there, but without proper diagnosis, this is all just best
guesses. Doing the ten minute relearn sometimes helps, and other
times not. If you do have a bad passlock sensor, the car won't start no
matter how many times you try to relearn it. You really need to get the
car scanned and pull the codes from all the modules on the car. I'm
willing to bet that you have some theft deterrent codes stored in the
body control module. Looks like you're going to have to visit a shop.
